6 Reasons to include blueberries in your diet

July is declared National Blueberry Month. Blueberries are not only popular but also nutritious foods that help improve our health.  In 1912, Elizabeth White worked with USDA botanist Frederick Coville to prove that blueberries could be grown. They sold the first commercial crop of high bush blueberries four years later.

Benefits of blueberry intake

1. Nutrient-rich fruit

Blueberries are rich in vitamins (C, B6, K) and minerals (calcium, phosphorus, and other nutrients).

2. Good for heart health

Antioxidants in blueberries are associated with lowering levels of oxidized LDL, which is good for the heart. The dietary fiber and the phytonutrients they contain also protect against heart disease.

3. Anti-aging effect

Some studies suggest that blueberries reduce DNA damage.

4. Blood sugar control.

Blueberries contain a moderate amount of sugar. However, the bioactive compounds in it seem to outweigh the negative effects of sugar.

5. Helps improve intestinal health

Blueberries contain dietary fiber, which helps prevent constipation and maintain regularity in the digestive tract.

6. A good source of vitamins

A cup of blueberries provides vitamin K, vitamin B6, and 1/4 of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C

Many scientific studies assume that increasing the intake of plant-based foods reduces the risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Much scientific research has been done on blueberries since 2000. They continue every year.
