"Muesli" vs "Granola"
Doctors in the second half of the ninetieth century thought about making breakfast healthier. In 1863, Dr. James Jackson created "granula", and Maximilian Bircher-Bernner, a Swiss physician developed "muesli" around 1900.
Muesli
A mixture of oats, nuts, seeds, and dried fruit is called Muesli. It was created by a Swiss doctor and a nutrition expert. It is a popular breakfast in Europe. The ingredients are not baked. Muesli is traditionally soaked overnight in milk or juice and served cold. It can be eaten raw with milk or boiled with water.
Granola (originally Granula) is a breakfast and snack food created by James Jackson, an American Physician, and later developed by Dr. John Kellogg. It has the same ingredients as Muesli (oats, nuts, seeds, dried fruit) and also has oil and sweeteners like honey, maple syrup, or cane sugar in it.
Health Benefits
Being both based on oats, muesli and granola contain fiber (beta-glucans) known to improve gut health, and lower blood sugar, and cholesterol.
The nuts in them provide monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids that help reduce the risk of heart disease.
Muesli vs Granola
● Muesli is enjoyed raw and sweetened with dried fruit only, while granola is baked and contains added sweeteners along with dry fruit.
● Granola is higher in calories than muesli because of oil and sweeteners.
Granola and muesli are very similar. To reduce the sugar content, you can make your homemade version of this breakfast.
